high school confidential

High School Confidential, by Jeremy IversenThe book High School Confidential: Secrets of an Undercover Student by Jeremy Iversen follows the 24 year-old author’s experiences posing as a high school senior in an “average” high school in California. The book gives a look inside our country’s educational system and shows many students’ lacadaisical attitudes toward school, authority and the future. It’s equally insightful and scary! The book reminded me vaguely of my own days in high school — pointless assemblies, lazy teachers, and students being herded like cattle from class to class. I am forced to ask myself if my outlook on life has changed considerably since graduating in 2000 (I sure hope it has). Check the book out and let me know what you think…

a manifesto of sorts…

In the midst of a two-day winter storm, I chose to take advantage of a surprise day off of work to go about staking out my own little corner of the internet. What will I add to this page? I don’t know. Will anyone read it? I don’t really care right now. I’m just excited to have my MySQL server running successfully. I hope that this weblog will be equal parts introspective, informative and entertaining… we’ll see.

Winter Wonderland

In lieu of working today, I went to dig out my car from where I left it last night at the bar where, despite my best attempt, I couldn’t leave due to the snow. The afternoon provided an opportunity to play in the snow (sledding, snow angels, beer, co-workers, etc.) at our apartment.

New favorite winter drink: hot chocolate with carmel Bailey’s
